Aromatherapy is one of the fastest rising industries in the country. With the fad of new age activities like yoga on the upswing, it seems that aromatherapy is here to stay for the next couple of years. In fact, it is one of the most popular practices in terms of holistic and alternative medicine.
It is being used everywhere, from clinics and hospitals for their pain relief treatment especially during labor and with chemotherapy to the rehabilitation of patients who have heart ailments, from the alleviation of stress and the relaxation of muscles in day spas to the beauty and cosmetic products being made. You name it and aromatherapy has influenced it one way or the other.
But besides candles and lotions and scents, which define aromatherapy to a T, what is it all about and what can it give us?
Aromatherapy is the practice of using oils from plant extracts for medicinal, relaxation and aromatic purposes. These oils are called essential oils, which are used and combined with other ingredients to produce perfumes, lotions, and other beauty, skin care and hair care products. In fact, all the products with your favorite plant scent such as Rose, Lavender and Chamomile are results of the practice of aromatherapy. It is said that aromatherapy can also improve one’s mood, lightening it up and easing the stress. This is perhaps why the technique is also used in massage parlors and spas to relax customers.
The use of essential oils is a practice that has been going on for centuries. It all started with the Greeks, who invented the crude way of distilling. The process of distillation was then used to extract the oils from the plants.
Next to adopt the practice are the Egyptians, which incorporated it into their traditions and customs. Plant oils are used in their various religious set-ups and even in the burying of their dead. In fact, archaeologists who dug up tombs in Egypt have found plant extracts and remains with embalmed bodies. It was also the Egyptians, who first used the plant extracts for cosmetic and aromatic purposes.
Next in line were the Romans, who discovered the use of the essential oils as medicine. Hippocrates, the father of medicine, has been known to use plant oils in his medical work back in his time.
It was only in the 1920s that the practice got the name “aromatherapy” which was invented by René Maurice Gattefossé, a French chemist, who used the process in his own work. Unknown to many, aromatherapy has a lot of branches. One of those branches is Home Therapy, which deals with the use of the practice for self-treatment as well as in the use of it in making perfumes and cosmetics. It is also used in medical practice and this branch is called the clinical aromatherapy. Lastly, the branch that deals with the use of aromatherapy in the psychology of odors and its effects in people is called the Aromachology.
One of the best known scents in aromatherapy is the lavender, which people can actually find in every product label in groceries and in beauty stores. Unknown to many, lavender can also be used in the treatment of wounds as well as in the enhancement of memory. It can also be used as a sleeping aid as it helps relieve anxiety and insomnia.
In addition to lavender, other really popular aromatherapy products are those with the scents of Rose, Eucalyptus, Bergamot, Cinnamon, Rosemary and of course Jasmine.

The peppermint, spearmint and lavendar smell as if they have been cut with the same type of oil to dilute them. I have had 6 people verify so that I could take human factor out. Aromatherapy, like many new practices, is riding on to success-ville. Everyone wants to attempt some yoga or have a massage with scents that will relax not only your physique but also your soul. But along with its rising popularity is the rising amount of questions about the process. What is it about? What makes it work? Is it secure? Does it actually calm the nerves and relax the muscles? Aromatherapy is the practice or use of oil extracts from plants for their medicinal and aromatic advantages in order to improve psychological, spiritual and physical effectively becoming. Correct aromatherapy does not contain the use of oils that are only utilized for fragrance. These are considered unnatural goods since they have been tampered with already in the laboratories. Most think that aromatherapy is a new discovery but the truth is, the practice of using vital oils for medicinal and aromatic purposes has been going on for centuries. It began with the Greeks and the Egyptians, who utilized a crude distillation procedure to extract oils from the plants and flowers in the location. One of the main positive aspects of aromatherapy is in the improvement of a person’s psychological and mental state. Aromatherapy, they claim, can aid relax the thoughts and get rid of the daily strain that individuals endure from. It can lighten the mood and alleviate strain signs and symptoms such as feelings of depression, heaviness and sadness. Of course, it can not cure actual psychological issue. And if you are thinking along these terms, you are in for a disappointment. Aromatherapy only assists to alleviate the surface effects of strain but not the underlying causes and psychological troubles. There are also claims that aromatherapy has medicinal purposes and it has but it does not directly cure an illness. It only serves to strengthen the bodies of the person and also calm their fears so that they can far better cope with the illness. Aromatherapy can also in easing the feelings of nausea when having an illness. This is particularly true with folks who are undergoing chemotherapy. Also, aromatherapy can strengthen one’s immune system, which is a big plus in fighting off diseases and illness.Like with the claims with psychological well becoming, aromatherapy can not cure a disease. Individuals who claim otherwise ought to not be trusted. Aromatherapy indirectly assists but it does not straight cure the issue. Another benefit that aromatherapy provides in the improvement in widespread ailments such as indigestion, acne and other skin issues and also PMS and menstruation. The therapy has been acknowledged to help stop dysmenorrhea, a problem wherein a individual feels pain in the abdominal area due to menstruation. Essential oils are also utilized and combined with some hair care formulas simply because they have been recognized to keep the hair wholesome and shiny. The very same goes with skin care. Aromatherapy can also assist in coping and dealing with various emotions. In fact, there are unique plant extracts that can be employed for this extremely objective. Anger for instance can be alleviated by Jasmine, Orange, Roman Chamomile, Rose and Ylang Ylang whilst anxiety can be dealt with extracts from plants such as Bergamot, Geranium, Cedarwood and Lavender. Confidence can be enhanced with a touch of Cypress, Bay Laurel and Rosemary whilst depression can be alleviated by Clary Sage, Helichrysum, Neroli, Sandalwood, Frankincense and Mandarin.

This review is from: Aromatherapy for Healing the Spirit: Restoring Emotional and Mental Balance with Essential Oils (Paperback)
I love this book. I am a Registered Aromatherapist who prepares blends for physical, mental, and emotional well being. The author writes with such detail that the oils become alive with their own personalities. The beginning is a brief explanation of Aromatherapy, Oriental medicine and Astrology. This is followed by a wonderful Materia Medica with explanations of 37 oils. Each oil is described in two pages which include a brief botanical description, ancient uses, oriental uses of a physical, emotional and spiritual nature, and an astrological description. He gives suggestions for oils along with detailed explanations for nervous tension, overthinking and worry, anxiety and apprehension, poor concentration and memory, lack of confidence and self-esteem, anger and frustration, disempowerment and indecision, depression and negativity, and problems in relating. I refer to this book often.

In my opinion, this is the finest exploration of the emotional uses of essential oils in print today, and I'm delighted it has been reissued. Gabriel's overview of TCM and how it applies to aromatherapy is thought provoking; but it is in his descriptions of the emotions and of the oils that his work truly shines. This book is a must have for anyone interested in healing on levels beyond the purely physical.

This review is from: Aromatherapy for Healing the Spirit: Restoring Emotional and Mental Balance with Essential Oils (Paperback)
Having read Gabriel's articles on how to utilize aromatherapy in concert with the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, I was thrilled to find he had published this gem of a book. Although its approach works best for those who have studied acupuncture or Chinese herbology, it is also for those with a little familiarity with shiatsu or 5 element theory. He does a good job of explaining 5 element theory for those completely unfamiliar with Chinese medicine, too. The descriptions of essential oils and how they are to be used is most useful for psychoemotional difficulties, but sufficient info on physical uses is included. I highly recommend this book to people with an interest in both aromatherapy and Chinese medicine, though any aromatherapy practitioner will glean new and useful information.

This review is from: Car Diffuser Aromatherapy 1 Count (Kitchen)
This aromatherapy car diffuser is very simple to use. You put a few drops of any essential oil on a small pad that you insert into the front of the diffuser, plug it into your car lighter and that's it. The fragrance is noticeable within a minute or two depending on how many oil drops you use. Usually between three and five drops is enough for most cars. I have tried peppermint oil and it makes the air feel cool to breathe and does help keep you alert. Any pure oil will work, but mint or citrus oils (like grapefruit or sweet orange) have worked best for me in my car. The pads seem to last a long time and it's best to use one pad for each different fragrance you use. The diffuser comes with five pads. Additional refill pads can be purchased seperately (very inexpensive). I prefer this diffuser to typical car air freshners that have a strong artificial or overly perfumy smell. 5 stars!

This essential oil case is perfect - I have no complaints. When stored upright toward the handle all of your oils are facing cap up, (as long as you put them in properly, with cap facing toward the "binding" of the portfolio). It easily takes 1/2 oz bottles in all rows if you do this. I now have my 55 oils alphabetized so I can find them easily - no more digging through one case to find what I need. LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT.

This review is from: Aromatherapy: An A to Z, Revised Edition (Paperback)
i borrowed this book from the library (before i bought it!) and it was a good read. It is thorough, well presented, and has enough recipes to get you started. You are steered on the right path in terms of oils that you should be cautious with ( which is a far cry from the recipes that you get on the 'net that just throws out any oil/herb combination without telling you the risks). For a starter aromatherapist, i can truly say that i do feel confident with the products that i make for myself and my family. It is really worth the price and more. You will find yourself reaching for it over and over again. The reason why i gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that the illustrations could have been more oraganized, and more attractively done. It may sound like splitting hairs, but if you tried to use the illustrations as a guide for plants for infused oils, you may be disappointed. |

Some {people|individuals|folks|men and women} get in and out of a shower {within|inside} minutes {without|with out|devoid of|without having} even realizing how refreshing it can be. The use of soap and water can make the {person|individual|particular person} {feel|really feel} clean but staying a {little|small} longer can beautify the skin and relax those tired muscles.
This can be achieved by {trying|attempting} out aromatherapy. Aside from pouring oil into the warm water, bath salts can also be {used|utilized|employed|utilised} to make this work. The individual will {need|require|want|will need} to have a bathtub so this can be sprinkled into the water {until|till} it dissolves. {Many|Numerous|Several|A lot of} of these can be {purchased|bought} at the {store|retailer} or {online|on-line|on the web|on the internet} in {large|big|significant|huge} containers. The {person|individual|particular person} can do this {daily|every day|everyday|day-to-day} to {feel|really feel} refreshed {after|following|right after} a {long|lengthy|extended} day at work.
Aromatherapy bath salts can also be produced at {home|house|residence|property}. The individual can go to the {store|retailer} to {buy|purchase|acquire|get} the ingredients and then make it {happen|occur|take place|come about}. An example is salt potpourri.
The {person|individual|particular person} will {need|require|want|will need} some sea salts, colorants and fragrance oils. The salts are transparent and odorless. In order to have color and scent, it has to be mixed with the two other ingredients and then set out in a parchment to dry.
{After|Following|Right after} it is {ready|prepared}, this {should|ought to|need to|must} be placed in a container and only opened when this will be {used|utilized|employed|utilised} {while|although|whilst|even though} taking a bath.
{Since|Because|Given that} bath salts are sold in {large|big|significant|huge} bottles, the {person|individual|particular person} will have to {buy|purchase|acquire|get} {each|every|every single|each and every} separately. The {person|individual|particular person} can {try|attempt} {one|1} {kind|type|sort} {today|these days|right now|nowadays} and {another|an additional|yet another|one more} {one|1} tomorrow. Most of those sold in the display shelf come with a {product|item} description stuck on the container.
This will {really|truly|actually|genuinely} be {helpful|useful|valuable|beneficial} for those who want have {never|by no means|in no way} {tried|attempted} bath salts {before|prior to|just before} and are {more|much more|a lot more|far more} accustomed to scented oils.
When {everything|every thing|every little thing} is {ready|prepared}, all the {person|individual|particular person} has to do is get in the tub. Some {people|individuals|folks|men and women} have {tried|attempted} {using|utilizing|making use of|employing} scented candles that has the {same|exact same|identical|very same} scent as the bath salts and a soft CD playing in the background to make the room {feel|really feel} {comfortable|comfy}.
The {person|individual|particular person} {should|ought to|need to|must} relax and just lie there for the skin to be {able|in a position} to absorb the healing properties of the oil. The individual can leave {after|following|right after} fifteen minutes or {more|much more|a lot more|far more} to rinse and then towel off.
{Being|Becoming} {able|in a position} to {produce|create} bath salts at {home|house|residence|property} can be a {good|great|excellent|very good} way to {start|begin|commence} an aromatherapy {business|company|enterprise|organization}. {After|Following|Right after} {buying|purchasing|getting|acquiring} the {materials|supplies}, producing and then packaging it, the entrepreneur can sell this or have {someone|somebody|an individual|a person} else do it.
Immersing oneself in the bathroom {using|utilizing|making use of|employing} aromatherapy bath salts is refreshing. The {nice|good} {thing|factor|issue} about it is that this can be {done|carried out|completed|performed} as {often|frequently|usually|typically} as the individual {wants|desires} {since|because|given that} there are no {known|recognized|identified} side effects.
The {person|individual|particular person} {should|ought to|need to|must} just make {sure|certain|positive} that there is amply supply all the time so this can be {done|carried out|completed|performed} {regularly|frequently|often|on a regular basis}. This can be {done|carried out|completed|performed} by {buying|purchasing|getting|acquiring} the ingredients and preparing the {next|subsequent} batch or {getting|obtaining|acquiring|finding} the {finished|completed} {product|item} from the {store|retailer}.
Bath salts if these are not {used|utilized|employed|utilised} {regularly|frequently|often|on a regular basis} will harden due to excessive moisture. This does not mean it {should|ought to|need to|must} be thrown way already {because|simply because|due to the fact|since} softening it can still make it usable.
Aromatherapy can do wonders for {anyone|anybody|any person|everyone} regardless of age or gender. The {person|individual|particular person} {should|ought to|need to|must} just {keep|maintain} an open {mind|thoughts} about the {idea|concept|thought|notion}, which is a bit {different|various|distinct|diverse} than the western medicine practices that {people|individuals|folks|men and women} are {more|much more|a lot more|far more} familiar with.

So what is aromatherapy and what exactly are essential oils? Well, essential oils are the final product of a process of extraction from plants. This process distills and concentrates the essences of various plants to make them useful for aromatherapy. There are many ways this extraction process can be done. Usually, it is completed through a process called distillation.
So what can essential oils be used for. Many things! It’s uses can vary from basic aromatherapy to perfumes, flavoring of food and anti-aging,etc. For it’s use in aromatherapy, the essential oils are known to contain healing properties which also can help to rejuvenate the mind and body. It can help to relive stress and sooth pain.
In the case of being used in perfumes, the essential oils are mixed and blended together with water and alcohol. The flower fragrances are what gives it it’s distinctive smell. By changing the percentage mixture of essential oils, water and alcohol, the strength of the perfume scent changes accordingly. As a frame of reference, a perfume that has a strong scent will usually have only about twenty percent essential oils, seventy five percent alcohol and the remaining five percent consisting of water.
For skin-care products, essential oils are used widely in creams, shampoos and moisturizers. Not only that, massagers in spas also used essential oils to apply on their client’s bodies before an actual massage.
For uses in food products, essential oils are used to add flavor to the foods. This is most used in foods that are kept in packages for long stretches of time. Besides flavoring, essential oils also supposedly aids in food digestion. They can help in relieving stomachaches and poisoning of food.
Lastly, essential oils can also be used as mosquito repellents. Surprised? Well eucalyptus oil does just that. So instead of burning those coils which can be potentially filled with not very healthy smoke, why not just heat up some eucalyptus oil and let it do the trick? You’ll be pleasantly surprised that it does the job of driving away mosquitoes just as well.
So there you have it, several benefits and uses of essential oils that can be utilized. And you thought it was only limited for aromatherapy uses?

Weight loss is never easy. It takes a lot of effort and time to get excess weight off. Essential oils can be blended to promote weight loss.
Pink grapefruit is a great oil to use when you are dieting. The grapefruit can work well in a blend to treat overweight issues. On the other hand, pink grapefruit also works with treating people who are suffering from eating disorders as well.
The reason that pink grapefruit works so well is because it helps to lower the average appetite. If you have a sweet craving, pink grapefruit helps control that. Pink grapefruit also works well in aiding digestion and improves metabolism.
Lemon is another popular essential oil choice to use with weight loss. Lemon oil is very versatile. Lemon can be used in a lot of different ways, which can include cleaning, improving moods, and clearing up skin irritations.
Lemon is a popular choice because it stimulates blood circulation and lymph circulation. Both are necessary if you want to have an effective body cleanse. Lemon also aids with digestion and metabolism, and can tone your body while you lose weight.
Sweet orange oil works in a similar fashion like lemon oil does. It works really well to circulate blood and lymphatic systems. This makes it a great tonic to clean out the body.
Sweet orange also works well with helping people who exercise because it relieves sore muscles. It stimulates the release of lactic acid in the muscles. Lactic acid will build up in muscles when you exercise and use this, which causes soreness.
Essential oils should be used carefully. When you use them be sure to purchase certified, natural ones. Don’t waste your money purchasing cheap, synthetic copies. These copies will not give you the desired effect that you are hoping for with weight loss. It is always better to buy high quality oil, that is pesticide free, than get a cheaper, knock-off brand. The better the oil you have, the better your results will be with weight loss.
