No enzymes are used to extract the essential oils of plants.
Chamomiles and Geraniums are usually steam distilled. Champa is an absolute usually extracted with hexane.
References :
www.eoils.net

Tinctures and plant extracts as much as they've contributed to pharmacology and other health sciences are at the same time rooted in both fact and "traditional misinformation."

I'm not sure whether to trust natural white willow bark or the laboratory aspirin it contains.

But I digress...

Plant and other extracts are basically just removed by means of researching whatever desired properties they contain, discovering
natural liquids (water, alcohols, oils) and/or other natural elements that the extract has an affinity for, and that's about it. Reactions with the enzymes that you mention would I think have to more involved.

A little bit of actual botany research is the best way to start. Not folklore, so much as people who aren't out selling miracle snake oils. There are honest botanical suppliers to be found, who even bother to mention little things like "a teaspoon of that particular bark is great for (whatever) but two teaspoons can kill you..."

Oh and, btw, the chamomile I'd have to look up, but simply steeping it in hot water should work.
Whatever components it contains may not be very water soluble though. Many tinctures use grain alcohol instead. It can be soaked, filtered, and the alcohol allowed to evaporate over gentle heat.
References :
I would guess if you are making cosmetics and it says use peppermint oil it means the essential oil, I wouldn't use fragrant oils make sure you have proper essential oils because they are the ones with therapeutic benefits not fragrant oils.
References :
Diploma in Aromatherapy

Plain or "Fragrance" oils do not disclose the ingredients used in making. You may not be getting the concentration you need, nor a purely "Lavender" ingredient makeup.

Essential oils are highly concentrated. They are what we would call "Pure" - usually completely pure of the ingredient mentioned on the label.

If a recipe calls for peppermint oil, you can use peppermint essential oil instead (usually people ask the vice-versa), however, because the essential oil is less diluted than the plain (or "fragrant") oil, it is not possible to know exactly how much less of the essential oil will work for the recipe.

The highest concentration of essential oils in your blend should be less than 20% proportional to the base alcohol or oil, which is actually the classic French perfume concentration ratio.

(20 drops total (adding up all essential oils used) for 4 mL base)

I'd say since it is a cosmetic recipe (perfume?), mix in adjusted to preference, but it will more likely be significantly lower amount needed.

They sure do hun ♥

The ones i've had personal experience with are Peppermint oil, lavender oil and eucalyptus oil.

Pure essential peppermint oil is brilliant for nasty headaches and migraines. Simply put 2 - 3 drops onto a cotton ball and inhale the wonderfull minty vapours for a minute or two ~ ensuring not to get it on your skin as it will either irritate or sting it. Then lie down for 15 - 20 minutes in a cool dark room.

Peppermint oil is also one of the most important oils for treating problems of the digestive system as it stimulates bile production and stimulates and strengthens the liver ~ it will help eliminate a tummy ache, expel gas, ease nausea and indigestion too.

It is also a mental stimulant and will help give you clarity of mind and thought and promote positive thinking and can ease heart palpitations.

Avoid use of peppermint oil during pregnancy or while breastfeeding and use only small quantities.

Lavender oil is brilliant too..... if you can only choose one oil this would be it ♥

it is safe and versatile and gentle and may be used undiluted over very small areas.

Lavender oil is an antiviral, antiseptic and has antibiotic properties combined with the ability to loosen and expel mucus............ great for use in a chest rub for throat infections, coughs, colds and bronchitis.

It is also renowned for its effective relief of the pain and inflammation caused by arthritis, muscular aches and pains, rheumatism, sciatica and muscular pain arising from stress and tension. The best way of utilising lavender oil for these probs is in a synergistic massage or bath blend with other oils where it will strengthen their properties.

lavender is a great stress leveller and can create calm and order from mental chaos to harmonise and balance every aspect of our bodies and minds....... it will help lift depression and also ease headaches and insomnia.

Caution: Avoid use during the first 2 trimesters of pregnancy, longer if there is a history of miscarriage and also avoid whilst breastfeeding♥

Eucalyptis oil ~ has long been respected for its ability to lower temperatures and help the respiratory tract by loosening and removing mucus during attacks of bronchitis, coughs, flu, sinusitis and throat infections. Its antiviral and antibacterial action will deter further growth of the bacteria or virus♥

Put a capfull of eucalyptus oil into a hot bath and soak in that for 15 - 20 minutes luxuriously inhaling the steamy wonderfull vapours.......... this will help enormously in loosening congestion and mucus from your chest and respiratory tract.

Put a few drops of eucalyptus oil also onto a hanky and lie it next to your pillow at night to help ease breathing.

Fill a salad bowl with hot water and put 1/2 a capfull of eucalyptus oil into it ~ make a tent with a towel over your head and lean over the bowl and inhale the steamy eucalypt vapours ........... being carefull not to get so close that you burn your face♥

Caution ~ Do not use eucalyptus oil if you suffer from epilepsy or high blood pressure, or if you are pregnant or breast feeding ....... if either is the case simply substitute with tea tree oil which is also a brilliant antiviral and antibacterial♥

Also, please don't use any of these oils on infants or young children as their immature digestive and neural systems will be put at risk ♥

Also do not ingest any oil unless under the specific instructions of a naturopath or nutritionally oriented physician ♥

Organic & pure essential oils will always be the only choice too as the commercial varieties have had all the goodness pulverised from them and could never possibly have any therapeutic benefits ♥

Go to the bookstore hun & buy yourself a comprehensive handbook on aromatherapy which will guide and steer you in putting all these wonderfull oils to the very best possible use.

hope you have as much pleasure seeking and learning about essential oils and their therapeutic purposes as i have ♥

hope this helps a bit ♥

Medical grade essential oils are pure and have not been cut with a carrier oil. They are usually French Medical Standard and are used in hospitals and medical clinics in Europe. There are a few on line companies that sell these types of essential oils. The English protocol uses diluted oils which can cause reactions to the oils and fillers put into them. You use much less of the oil because it is undiluted. You are much less likely to get a reaction to the oil by using a pure oil. Yes, they are brilliant for a lot of things, but you need a good reference guide to teach you how to use them wisely. If you would like more information you are welcome to email me at iamradiantrose@yahoo.ca.
