The use of reed fragrance diffusers is really a very basic concept. One places scented reed diffuser oil into a small container of glass, then reeds or bamboo skewers are set inside the oil in the jar. On the first time, the reeds should be left in the oil for about an hour before they are flipped so that the other side is placed in the oil, then speeds up the start up time. That is basically all that is needed to be done to get started. The jar is now set somewhere out of the way where it won’t be likely to be knocked over. It will take a bit but soon the reeds will start to disperse the light fragrance from the oil.
The tip to having a variety of scents is in the diffuser oils themselves. You can purchase premade diffuser oils or you can make your own reed fragrance diffusers oils with simple things from your home such as mineral oil, sweet almond oil or safflower oil which can be used as a carrier oil for an essential oil. A splash of vodka will help the mix travel thru the reeds easier, you can also use your own perfume or liquid potpourri to scent the reeds. The choices are limitless as to what you can use to add a light scent to your room.
If you are not much of a do it yourself type, there are many kits that contain reed fragrance diffusers. They will have all the supplies you need including the jar, reeds and diffuser oils. All you do is fall some simple instructions and in no time you will have your room smelling sweet as well. The best part is that this is a constant scent, it doesn’t require batteries or electricity and it does nothing to damage the planet, just adds a sweet little touch to your home.

Good idea, could be improved,
I like the idea of combining fragrance with a candle effect.
Pros: can use any fragrance oil, low energy use, can leave unattended (out of the reach of children and pets)
Cons: fragrance warmer does not work with batteries alone – in order to have both the candle and the fragrance warmer work, you must plug it in. Does not throw the fragrance particularly well – could use a little fan or room for more oil, candle does not look as real as other flameless candles I’ve seen, the river rocks don’t serve a function and look a bit odd to me.

|Beautiful, meditative and safe.,
When I first heard of the flameless candles, I kept thinking, ‘what a Godsend for a challenged, safety conscious household.’ I have a very large, inquisitive dog, that does not need to be around real flames. Also, my hubby has asthma, so we use scented candles infrequently; mostly during entertaining. So I loved the idea that some of the flameless candles offer optional diffusers, just for those special occasions. Also, that there is NO smoke, which itself can disturb allergies, and there is increasing scientific evidence, that toxins emitted burning candles, can be a health hazard.
However, some of the first flameless candles that I saw, did not look very realistic, at all; the lights did not flicker. Thank goodness, they are making progress, so that we can now bring them home and display them proudly, while increasing our safety.
I purchased the AromaSpa Candle and couldn’t be more pleased. I’ve had it for 3 months and I ritualistically turn it on almost every evening. I find it quite soothing and very realistic, with the flickering light. I have mine located where I am able to plug it in, unobtrusively. So, I generally leave it on until it turns itself off, in six hours. Since mine is plugged in, I have no problems using the diffuser, if I so desire, and it offers sufficient aroma to satisfy me, without overdoing it.
It just so happens, that I had a large, clear glass plate, that came with river rocks and three real candles. I had long ago used the candles but immediately thought that this candle would look great nestled in the plate of river rocks. I was right! It looks as though they came together and added to the elegance of the total picture. It is really attractive.
There are so many places where flameless candles can bring peace and tranquility, where real flames aren’t permitted. For the hospitalized patient. Anyone home-bound, or disabled that might not want to deal with managing a real candle. For that forgetful senior citizen, or the teen, that you just don’t trust with real candles in their room, just yet. A dull office, or a little cube space, could sure be brought to life and maybe offer a Zen moment here, and there.
Okay, enough said! You can see I’m turned on by this candle and the idea of flameless candles, in general. I think you just might be, too.

|Subtle scent good for smaller rooms,
I recently bought this three-pack of reed diffusers to use in our three bathrooms. The first day after I set them up, we could not smell them at all, so I just flipped the reed sticks around, and they then let out a nice smell.
These emit a nice, subtle scent, and, as such, are good for smaller rooms and spaces. If you are looking to scent a larger room, these might not be strong enough. We have a Febreze brand diffuser, for instance, that scents our entire upstairs, and that one can be almost overpowering.
Another nice feature is that these diffusers are more green-friendly than the commercial brands.
If you find that the scent is too light, then I’d recommend flipping the reed sticks every few days to let out more scent. That seems to do the trick.
UPDATE ON 7/30/09: We’ve been disappointed with these diffusers, and won’t be re-purchasing them. I originally gave these three stars, but have downgraded my rating to one star. The scent just doesn’t last unless you flip the reeds every day (and even then the smell is barely noticeable, even in small rooms like our powder bathrooms), and the lavender one doesn’t smell at all. I’ll be looking for a different eco-friendly brand.

|Total waste of money,
Bought these in a 3-pack thinking it was a great price because you can’t buy 1 diffuser in any local store for this price. After getting them, opening them and setting up in 3 small rooms…I now know why they are so cheap…they don’t work!! I have 1 in a bathroom, another in a very small room (almost closet size), and another in a closet and neither of the rooms smell any different. Now, if I flip the sticks you can smell a slight difference…but that lasts minutes and fades away.
I really wanted these to work because they are smaller than most diffusers (only about 10″ high versus others that are over 15″). They only thing good about them is a little scent sack that is on top of the box that allows you to preview the scent (it is essentially a little cheese cloth filled with scented beads)…these I love because I put them in my vacuums exhaust and freshen up the room while I vacuum…but I didn’t buy these for that. Overall, a total waste of money. I already threw mine away.
