Is it safe to use essential oils while pregnant?

I get raging head aches almost on a daily basis. I'm four months pregnant and Tylenol isn't helping at all. I've used essential oils before i was pregnant, but my doctor cannot tell me if lavendar or peppermint is safe while pregnant. I used a small amount of peppermint oil on my temples two weeks ago, and it helped a lot, but i would like to use it every time i get a head ache instead of suffering. If you know anything about using essential oils while pregnant, please let me know. Thanks! Also i'm sucking on a peppermint lifesaver right now, and it seems to curb the pain a little bit but would still like to know about the oils. Thanks again!

You really, really have to be careful about using essential oils whilst you're pregnant. I suggest looking at some certified sites before using anymore.

Here are two I know of. They seem to be rather knowledgable.

The person before me mentioned peppermint oil. I don't think it's a good idea to do so. Peppermint oil is a blood thinner and can also affect menstruation, and that could be dangerous.

Some oils you shoudlnt use at all, but some are ok after the first triemester. Peppermint and Lavendar are fine, just be sure you use them carefully and diluted in a carrier (ike olive, jojoba, almond oil).

Oh and make sure you get a high quality lavender! I've gotten fake lavendar labeled as essential oil before.

Chekc the links below. The last one has some recipes. Good luck!

From all the research I have seen, peppermint oil is not safe to use while pregnant. I have a few books regarding the use of essential oils and they strongly advise you not to use peppermint oil while pregnant.

Pregnant women should avoid using wild tansy, cedarwood and oils containing constituents with hormone-like activity, such as clary sage, sage, geranium, jasmine, juniper, peppermint, rose, rosemary, and fennel.
