The scented candle is a product which has remained a popular gift over many years. With more and more increased competition internally and externally, this method of home fragrance is under pressure, and it is within this article that these pressures are questioned – why should the scented candle be defended against such pressures and why the scented candle will continue to be just simply a perfect gift.
Interior design is a continually evolving business; new trends, new styles, new products. I present one example of this. With the ascension of the fragrance diffuser in recent years, the scented candle has suffered. The fragrance diffuser, which is also known as the reed diffuser, is marketed as a safer way to provide luxury household scenting, eliminating the fire hazard which candles present. The fragrance diffuser does provide varied advantage; aromas through this means can be deployed anywhere, in places where scented candles simply cannot reasonably be used; diffusers rule the workplace. But there is still a place for the scented candle in our homes. Any worries and fears over the use of candles in the home can easily be allayed. Most candles now come in non-flammable holders which do not fall over easily, and if used sensibly by keeping the flame away from anything particularly flammable, such as curtains, can be as safe as any other household object. When used properly candles can be a safe addition to the look and feel of your house – there is something unmistakably atmospheric about the glow of a scented candle as it fills the room with its essence.
A scented candle is another of those products which can be called a perfect gift; the appeal is universal. Such candles are atmospheric, soothing, the ideal gift for ‘her’. There is a reason why ‘smelly candles’ are at the top of many women’s lists this year. But scented candles are not restricted to personal presents, and hold as a successful home gift. From an interior design point of view, scented candles can be instrumental. The scented candle can provide the finishing touches, or can equally dominating the focus of a room depending on Candle styles and positioning. Fronting duel properties as a room scenting and supplementary lighting device, the scented candle already notches an advantage over other means of home fragrance. It should be noted of course that the scented candles main aim is that of fragrancing, not lighting, but the comforting glow of such a product really contributes towards a feeling of warmth and comfort and always needs to be considered. Another overlooked advantage includes the stylistic merits of the candle itself. The candle holder is an opportunity for designers to create something which can perform as a stylish home accessory, added flair to the design of the candle in a way which the fragrance diffuser is limited in – there are only so many ways fragrance oil diffusers can be visually displayed. For scented candles the possibilities are endless; candles in gorgeous glass holders, crafted ceramic bowls, modern designed flasks, an opportunity is given for the candle to become more a piece of art than simply a means of home fragrance.
Most importantly however, luxury candles cannot be beaten when it comes to inventive and specialist scents, the main reason why scented candles are used in the first place. Smell is a very powerful sense, strongly connected with subconscious feelings and memories. Room scents can help reaffirm such connections with your own home, or even to bring back pleasant memories from long before. Room fragrance is not just a pleasant aroma, or means to clear undesirable odours, but has a much firmer connection to the overall design and feel of a home. One particular brand which I would like to mention in this case is the Baobab Collection, which began operating in 2002. Tracing its roots back to Tanzania, this brand has selected scents which bring you straight into the African heartland. Exotic aromas such as Serengeti Plains, White Rhino and Madagascar Vanilla are truly unique, making a huge difference to the atmosphere of a room. These scents succeed in transporting you to the African plains, and physically look great in transparent glass containers. But this is just one example of the carefully crafted scent ranges available across the market, an illustration of how much choice is available in this highly competitive area. There is a reason why, even through increased competition in the home fragrance market in general, that the scented candles market remains strong, and it is the sheer quality of the goods out there.

Giant Reed Diffuser
Every year there are a number of special days or events, whether it is Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day or on anniversaries or birthdays, at which time men everywhere have to do a bit of hard thinking and show some resourcefulness, by picking a gift for loved ones and partners which shows some thought and attention in its selection.
Unfortunately, there is a tendency to fall back on those old favourites like flowers, chocolates and perfume, which, while no doubt welcome, are hardly the most exciting and imaginitive choices. So when trying to think of something a little different have you ever considered giving someone a beautiful candle or reed diffuser as a gift? And if not, then why not? Home fragrances have come on in leaps and bounds since the only available options were the rather unpleasant smelling and euphemistically titled air fresheners which spent most of the time hidden away in the cupboard under the sink to be dragged out on those occasions when you need something to mask the smell of a rain-drenched pet dog or last nights takeaway dinner – usually to no avail. The best home fragrances these days use essential plant oils and extracts for their fragrances, rather than synthetic fragrance compounds, to ensure a you receive a product which truly reflects the scent it is supposed to portray.
And not only are home fragrance a delight to smell, they are also just as appealing to the eye. Nowadays you can find candles or reed diffusers in a whole host of colours, designs and fragrances so you will have no difficulty in finding one to suit even the most demanding of recipients. Put bluntly, if you cannot find a suitable scented candle or fragrance diffuser from the choices available, you simply are not trying hard enough. Candles and diffusers are to be found in a variety of scents from the ever-popular floral aromas such as rose, gardenia or geranium redolent of spring or summer gardens, to the woodier, muskier scents such as sandalwood, cedar or patchouli, which are perfect for those colder autumn or winter evenings.
And it is not just when it comes to the fragrance that you have such a great choice. You can choose from simple votive candles, ornately decorated jar candles, pillar candles or even scented candles in tins, which make a great, self-contained gift. Or if you are still not sure which candle your loved one would prefer you could always opt for a scented candle gift set, usually comprising a number of differently coloured and scented candles, so that your recipient can experiment before deciding on their favourite.
And if all else fails and you genuinely cannot seem to find a scented candle that you think is right, you always have the option of the new modern alternative, the reed diffuser. Reed diffusers are similar to scented candles in that they derive their aroma from essential plant oils, naturally occurring in nature. Where they differ from scented candles is that they do not need a flame or indeed any power supply to work. All you need to do is insert the rattan reeds in the scented oil and wait till the diffuser does it magic, filling your home with subtle fragrance! While scented candles provide a homely, welcoming touch to any room, reed diffusers are, perhaps, a little more contemporary in style. So, if your home is decorated in a more modern style you may be tempted to go for a diffuser for your home fragrance needs; if you favour a more traditional style of decor, then scented candles may suit you better. The choice is yours!

Of all the aromatherapy products available in the market today, aromatherapy candles are the most popular ones. Available in hundreds of scents, sizes, designs, shapes, colors, and textures, aromatherapy candles are preferred by most people because they are convenient and safer to use.
In fact, by using aromatherapy candles, an ordinary room can turn into a more cozy and inviting place where one can relax. Aside from turning an ordinary setting to an extraordinary one, scented candles can also evoke various memories from the past while transporting you into a place where you can fiend serenity and tranquility.
Unlike the usual candles, aromatherapy candles are known to release small but continuous stream of herbal and floral essences as they burn into the air. As the natural chemicals and essential oils contained in each candle enter your body through breathing, the therapeutic properties of the oil steadily travel in your bloodstream to stimulate the brain.
Compared to the direct use of aromatherapy essential oils through a massage, subtle benefits can only be achieved by lighting an aromatherapy candle. But, the diffusing essential oil in scented candles can aid greatly in the alteration, enhancement, and improvement of one’s state of mind. Aside from veering you away from the toxicities of your environment, burning aromatherapy candles can also give your space a touch of nature as it enlivens and clean the air in your abode.
THE POWER OF SCENT
Unlike other aromatherapy products that require accessories, aromatherapy candles are simpler to use. All you need is a pack of your chosen scent and a match or lighter to unleash powerful and soothing scents that enhances mood, uplifts spirits while relieving tensions. Aside from lighting up the aromatherapy candle, there are various wats to enjoy it. Here are some:
1. To enjoy the best aromatherapy candle, make sure that you buy items that contain “aromatherapy candle” label not “scented candle” label. This can assure you that you will enjoy the benefits of pure essential oils as the candles burn into the air.
2. Make sure that you select the right candle for the appropriate situation. Know what are your purpose and your desired effect in using a specific aromatherapy candle.
If you wish to invigorate, treat yourself by lighting an invigorating aromatherapy candle that contain mixture of oils from the citrus and mint families such as peppermint, spearmint, basil, eucalyptus, or cedar, rosemary, cinnamon, geranium, cassia, and vanilla to stimulate and revitalize your senses quickly.
If you want to relax, opt for a relaxing aromatherapy candle that contains pure essential oils from lavender, chamomile, patchouli, geranium, and rose that can help you release stress. If you’re creativity is being altered and you’re experiencing mental block, light up a aromatherapy candles that can help you concentrate such as those that contain citrus essential oils like lemon, orange, grapefruit, lemongrass, and bergamot.
And if you want to add atmosphere to your space, opt for aromatherapy candles that contains sensual essential oils like ylang ylang, vanilla, neroli, rose, clary sage, and sandalwood.
3. Make sure that you light up aromatherapy candles that can complement each other. Avoid burning candles that compete with the fragrance of other candles because the combination of these can produce a heavy scent that can cause you headache.
4. Make it a routine to light up aromatherapy candles so your body can get used to the therapeutic benefits of various essential oils.
5. In order to enjoy the maximum benefit of an aromatherapy candle, make sure that you choose the candle that is appropriate for your need and desired effect.

April 23, 2002 ByChristian Reh (Germany) - See all my reviewsThis review is from: Aromatic Candles (Hardcover)Excellent book with a good background on etheric oils, how to recognise and combine them and finally how to prepare candles using the different oils. The book has a very nice layout with a lot of pictures inviting to be very creative!
Material needed is quite a lot (especially if you start from scratch) but if preparation of candles is not a "one-shot-event" it is definitely a good investment. After a little bit of training these candles are the best presents to good friends and you can be sure to be invited again! ;-)

January 5, 2009 ByFluff City Mama (Seattle, WA) - See all my reviewsThis review is from: Aromatic Candles (Hardcover)This is a very pretty book, but deceptive. The recipes call for a few drops of essential oil per candle - if you like your candles fragrant (ie. the kind of person that would be attracted by the title) you will find these have little or no smell. I was also puzzled that the author called for vanilla essential oil, because, well, there's no such thing, it doesn't exist.
If you don't care about that but think the candles are gorgeous, don't expect yours to look like these. The most glaring example is the bayberry candle - the author calls for genuine bayberry wax instead of fragrance and adds no color. The candle pictured is dark red, but natural bayberry wax is pale green, and by following the directions you won't get anything remotely resembling the photo. Also many of the candles are two colors, and the order given for pouring them will give candles with colors in the opposite order and proportion than what's pictured, and the instructions on temperature control of the wax are inadequate to give a smooth join between colors. And there's a gorgeous marbled candle that I would love to know how they did, but the method described won't give you a candle that looks anything like the picture.
This book seems to fit into the category of another pretty craft book that doesn't have good instructions and just ends up disappointing.

September 4, 2011 This review is from: Therepe Scented Soy Jar Candles - 9 oz (Lavender) (Kitchen)Although I liked the scent of my ther'e-Pe candle, little did I know of the fire danger it posed. The directions say not to burn longer than 3 to 4 hours. It was about the 4 hour time frame, when our fire alarms screeched and announced "Fire, Fire." The candle wick had fallen below the melted wax and the entire surface of wax was on fire with flames 4 inches high and the top 1 inch of the glass jar was so hot it exploded and flew in every direction. NEVER burn this candle more than 3 hours at one time.

July 20, 2011 Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)This review is from: Therepe Scented Soy Jar Candles - 9 oz (Lavender) (Kitchen)These candles have been so frustrating! I have spent years using Votivo, Archipelago, The Thymes and most recently Lucia soy candles. These Therepe candles don't have as many interesting scents, but the one I was able to salvage was clean burning, very fragrant and lasted just as long as my $30 Thymes Indigenous candles. The order came in a complete mess. There wasn't a mere softening of the wax, which I would expect in hot weather, they spread all over the box they were shipped in. The little organza bag that they came in was completely saturated and ruined. I saved one by using a spatula to scrape up all the spilled wax, tried to re-smooth the top without losing the wick, washed the outside of the glass with soap and water, and refrigerated it. Candle Bay was good enough to send a replacement order immediately after my first complaint, I will give them that. The replacements arrived today, delivered directly into my hands so they did not sit out of doors, and in worse condition than the first order. I began yet another salvage attempt by squeezing the gelatinous wax from the organza pouch, then stopped and laughed at the ridiculous lengths I had gone to make the best out of a $20 purchase. They went directly into the garbage. It's really a shame. Not a single other soy candle that has been shipped to me has had been anything other than perfect...even in hot weather. The quality and the price combo of Therepe candles is unbeatable, but pointless if I am unable to enjoy it.

April 2, 2011 Bykev (Austin, TX) - See all my reviewsAmazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)This review is from: Therepe Scented Soy Jar Candles - 9 oz (Lavender) (Kitchen)I absolutely loved these candles at first. The lavender, mandarin grapefruit, lemongrass, and sandalwood smell AMAZING and are an amazing price. A couple of them arrived broken due to the shipping process, and the company quickly shipped replacements with no hassle.
The problem however lies in the wick, which I guess is too thick.
I am religious about keeping my candle wicks trimmed. There is something wrong when you trim the wick, light the candle, and 30 minutes later the entire top half of the glass is black from smoke. Eventually black smoke stained my wall/ceiling near where the candle sat. I won't be purchasing these anymore as I need something cleaner. I only purchase Soy Delites now - you can order them directly from their website with free shipping.

Aromatherapy Candles - Some Tips
Picking the best aromatherapy scented candle can be a tough choice, but choosing what method to use to purchase an aromatherapy scented candle is an important choice as well. There are a number of different methods for buying these types of candles and each way may be more or less preferable to the person that is looking for the candles. Buying aromatherapy scented candle can be expensive, depending on the type of candle purchased, so it is best to try to get the best item for the lowest cost with little hassle.
Candle Stores
In recent years, many stores that focus on selling candles have opened around the nation. These stores carry candles and holders only and may have a wide variety of aromatherapy scented candles from a single brand available. These places are the best for finding unique candle scents and the scents that they carry can change over time. Unless your favorite candle scent is a popular one, the store may not carry the scent for more than a couple of seasons, although sometimes the scents are reintroduced at a later date because of a large number of people asking to have the scent returned. The biggest disadvantage of buying an aromatherapy scented candle at a candle store is that this is often the most expensive method for picking an aromatherapy scented candle.
General Merchandise Stores
The traditional way of buying aromatherapy scented candles is at a general merchandise store. These stores will have a wide selection of different candles available which will allow the person to pick the aromatherapy scented candles that they enjoy the most. Some general merchandise stores will carry specific brands while others will have a wide range of scents and prices to appeal to different types of consumers. The prices of the candles at these stores are generally around 25% lower than the cost of buying a similar item from a candle store.
Online Ordering
Some people prefer to order a specific type of aromatherapy scented candle that they know that they like from the online website of a candle maker. Some of these candle makers sell wholesale aromatherapy candle products, which will allow the person to save a great deal of money by buying the scented candles that they like in bulk from the company. Ordering the aromatherapy scented candle online allows the person to have the candles delivered directly to the house without having to leave the house to shop for them. This is a good shopping method if you know the brand and scent of the candles that you would like to order. There are many methods for buying an aromatherapy scented candle available and the method used will depend on the personal preference of the purchaser.
